How to stake Decred: Beginner’s Guide

Decred PoS process explained 1) If you are completely new to Decred, read this first: decredible.com/mining/pos 2) Download one of the wallets from Decred’s download page. Recommended wallets are Decrediton or the Command-Line wallet. Your wallet will need time to sync itself to the latest block. This may take some time. It will do so automatically in the background. 3) Send your DCR to your wallet. Funds will show up if the wallet is synced to the latest block (sometimes a restart is required). 4) Pick a stakepool and sign up on the pool’s website. Copy the API key they will provide to you. A list of stakepools and their websites can be found at the bottom of… Read More

Cyphocracy – the easiest way to explain Decred governance

Decred has a unique governance system. We all know that. Our governance system allows on-chain hard fork voting (for consensus rule changes) and soon we will have a newly developed proposal system (for all kinds of proposals). This way, it is not only up to the miners and developers to determine the future of Decred. Users and stakeholders are also involved in the governance process. In recent discussions on social media we encountered many questions about Decred’s governance system. Most people immediately associate our governance system with a democracy. This connection is understandable because Decred introduced hard fork voting. However, our governance system is not democratic at all. Decred is… Read More

Successful Hard Fork governance on the Blockchain

Yesterday the first stakeholder approved Hard Fork went live on the Decred Blockchain. Community members, developers and holders voted in favour of a hard fork to replace the old stake difficulty algorithm, the mechanism that determines the PoS ticket price. The new stake difficulty algorithm will bring more stable ticket prices. Based on simulations, it is expected that the new prices will range between 50 – 70 DCR. This makes PoS mining buying much easier. Affordable tickets will be available during any interval, which means that there will be less competition on ticket fees – and thus a higher profit margin! What are the benefits of a Hard Fork governance… Read More

Free timestamp service on the Blockchain

News from the official Decred blog! As described in the 2017 Decred Roadmap, an important goal is to let each community member participate in the governance of Decred. To achieve this goal, a brand new proposal system is being developed. The proposal system will have two components: a blockchain-based timestamping service and a transparent version-controlled database of proposals. The recent blog post has revealed dcrtime, the public timestamping service. The primary motivation for dcrtime is the desire for the proposal system to have maximum transparency and accountability, while having a minimal onchain footprint. Dcrtime was written by Marco Peereboom over the past couple months and is the result of collaboration between Marco, Jake Yocom-Piatt… Read More

Hard Fork voting update

Decred is the first cryptocurrency to implement on-chain hard fork voting. Moreover, it seems that the Decred community has already approved the first Hard Fork – completely decentralised. What are we voting for? The first vote includes proposals to start Lightning Network development and to change the PoS Algorithm. The first topic was announced in the 2017 Decred Roadmap, the second topic was brought in by the community (in particular by those who take part in PoS mining). The Hard Fork voting process itself is described in docs.decred.org/getting-started/user-guides/agenda-voting Preliminary results At all times, there are up-to-date statistics available. If you are interested, check voting.decred.org and dcrstats.com.  The statistics show that voter turnout is high. It means… Read More
